Why is Vera Therapeutics stock reversing its premarket gains?

by September 15, 2026
written by September 15, 2026

Vera Therapeutics (VERA) shares ripped higher in premarket trading on September 15 as investors reacted to landmark clinical data.

The biopharmaceutical firm announced that its lead therapy TRUTAKNA (atacicept-vymj) met all primary and secondary endpoints in the final 104-week efficacy analysis of its Phase 3 ORIGIN 3 trial for primary IgA nephropathy (IgAN).

VERA’s study demonstrated a notable 76% risk reduction in kidney disease progression alongside true kidney function stabilization.

Including today’s decline, Vera Therapeutics stock is down more than 30% versus its year-to-date high.

Why Vera Therapeutics stock rallied earlier today

Tuesday’s explosive premarket rally in VERA shares was ignited by outstanding top-line findings from the 428-patient ORIGIN 3 trial, evaluating TRUTAKNA in adults with progressive IgA nephropathy – a severe autoimmune kidney disease that frequently leads to kidney failure.

Patients receiving the weekly autoinjector achieved an annualized eGFR (kidney function) slope decline of just -0.6 mL/min/1.73m² over two years, compared to a steep -5.6 mL/min/1.73m² annual drop in the placebo cohort.

Plus, zero patients in the TRUTAKNA group required long-term dialysis, kidney transplantation, or died from kidney-related causes.

Building on its accelerated FDA approval granted earlier this summer, Vera confirmed plans to submit a supplemental Biologics License Application (sBLA) for full FDA approval in Q4 2026.

Why VERA shares pared back gains

Despite the stellar clinical outcomes, Vera Therapeutics shares quickly began giving up their early premarket gains as market hours approached.

Financial analysts point to a classic “sell the news” dynamic following a prolonged period of high market expectations.

Because TRUTAKNA had already secured accelerated FDA clearance in July and initial launch metrics were strong – with over 350 patient start forms generated in its first ten weeks – much of the ORIGIN 3 success was already priced into the stock’s massive YTD run.

Additionally, valuation reality has stepped into focus: as a commercial-stage biotech scaling up operations, VERA reports zero prior product revenue and persistent net losses, alongside notable insider net selling ($8.3 million offloaded over the past 12 months), prompting short-term traders to lock in profits.

Should you buy Vera Therapeutics at the current price?

For long-term biotech investors, today’s intraday reversal presents a compelling structural entry point rather than a red flag.

Wall Street analysts remain decidedly bullish on Vera Therapeutics, maintaining a consensus “Buy” rating with an average 12-month price prediction of $77 – representing over 120% potential upside from its current trading range near $34.

The company boasts a robust balance sheet with a current liquidity ratio of nearly 10.9 and manageable debt, providing ample cash runway to support its commercial rollout.

While short-term trading may remain volatile as profit-taking settles, TRUTAKNA’s disease-modifying clinical profile positions Vera as a potential category leader in the multi-billion-dollar IgAN market ahead of its Q4 full FDA submission.
