Accenture stock falls 4% today: here’s why

written by September 18, 2026

Accenture (ACN) stock fell 4% on Friday after Guggenheim downgraded the consulting and technology services company to Neutral from Buy and removed its previous price target.

The downgrade came as Guggenheim said its channel checks had not identified a corresponding improvement in demand despite Accenture shares rebounding 52% from their June lows.

The firm also pointed to job-posting data showing fewer openings and Accenture’s recent push into the mid-market through the launch of Accenture Edge.

Guggenheim interpreted the move as an indication that demand from core enterprise customers remains challenged.

Despite the 52% gain from June, ACN stock is down 29% in 2026.

Analysts see limited improvement in demand

Guggenheim’s downgrade adds to a mixed view among Wall Street analysts.

According to TipRanks data provided in the source, seven of 18 analysts have a Buy rating on Accenture, while 11 have a Hold rating.

Deutsche Bank also highlighted weak demand trends but took a different approach to its price target. The bank raised its target for Accenture to $175 from $136 while maintaining a Hold rating ahead of the company’s fiscal fourth-quarter earnings report.

Deutsche Bank attributed the higher target primarily to increased valuations among peer companies.

However, the bank’s assessment of Accenture’s underlying demand remained cautious.

The analyst said there was no discernible evidence of a rebound in spending and argued that AI-related investment remains concentrated in a limited number of use cases.

According to Deutsche Bank, that investment has yet to translate into higher budgets for traditional IT services.

Accenture’s scale supports its business

Accenture remains a major player in technology consulting and professional services.

The company serves roughly 9,000 clients across more than 120 countries, providing strategy and technology services.

Its FY 2025 annual report highlighted a digital transformation partnership with UniCredit aimed at modernising technology across 13 European markets.

Accenture also reported that it has worked with 195 of its 200 largest clients for more than a decade, a relationship that supports long-term client retention.

For fiscal 2025, revenue reached nearly $69.7 billion, an increase of approximately 7.4% from the previous year. Net income was around $7.8 billion.

Revenue has also increased from approximately $64.1 billion in fiscal 2023, reflecting growth in the company’s business over that period.

Balance sheet and competitive challenges

Accenture’s financial position provides another part of the investment picture.

Based on its August 2025 balance sheet, the company had a debt-to-equity ratio of approximately 0.3x and a current ratio of nearly 1.4x.

The company also generated close to $10.9 billion in free cash flow, representing cash remaining after operating expenses and capital investments.

However, Accenture faces competition from large technology companies as well as newer businesses focused on artificial intelligence.

Its reliance on ecosystem partners for a significant portion of revenue also creates potential risks if those partners develop competing offerings.

Regulatory developments could add another challenge. Regulations such as the EU AI Act could require additional compliance spending and operational changes.

Geopolitical tensions may also make it more difficult for Accenture to forecast demand for consulting services.

With shares having recovered significantly since June while analysts continue to flag soft demand, the company’s fiscal fourth-quarter results will provide investors with another indication of how enterprise technology spending is developing.
