Dow Jones Index outlook: Top 4 catalysts for US stocks this week

by October 5, 2026
written by October 5, 2026

The Dow Jones Index has come under pressure in the past few weeks as top constituent companies have pulled back. It has slumped in the last five consecutive weeks, reaching its lowest level since May 26. This article looks at the key stock market news that will affect the index this week.

Federal Reserve to publish minutes of last meeting

The Dow Jones Index will react to the Federal Reserve minutes that comes out on Wednesday this week. These minutes will provide more insights on the last meeting in which officials decided to hike interest rates by 0.25%.

The initial statement suggested that most officials predicted that the bank will hike interest rates again later this year. As a result, odds that this will happen jumped to over 70% on key platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket.

These odds have now cratered after last week’s macro numbers from the US. These numbers showed that the headline and core personal consumption expenditure (PCE) eased a bit in August. This is notable since the PCE is the Federal Reserve’s favorite inflation gauge.

Another report showed that the US economy added just 29,000 jobs as the unemployment rate rose to 4.2% last month. These numbers mean that the Fed will not be inclined to hike interest rates later this year. As such, the upcoming minutes, while important, will have a minimal impact on US equities.

Dow Jones to react to key macro data

The other key stock market news will be crucial macro data from the United States. These numbers will provide more insights into the economy and have an impact on the bond market.

The first key macro data to watch will be the S&P Global and ISM non-manufacturing PMI report on Monday. This report is important because it provides hints on the services industry, which is the biggest part of the US economy.

The US will publish the latest trade numbers on Tuesday, providing hints on whether imports and exports are growing. After that, the University of Michigan will release the consumer confidence report on Friday. These macro numbers will help to move the bond market, which will impact US equities.

US-Iran war tensions

The Dow Jones Index will react to the potential escalation in the US-Iran war. Analysts believe that Iran may decide to escalate in the coming weeks, a move it hopes will impact the energy market.

There are signs that this escalation has started, with Iran intensifying the shooting of ships attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz. Higher oil prices may lead to a sticky inflation, forcing the Fed to hike interest rates. It will also lead to a high cost of doing business, which may affect corporate margins.

Key corporate earnings

The Dow Jones Index will also react to some notable earnings from American companies. The most important one will be PepsiCo, the giant company in the beverage and snacking industry. Its earnings, which comes out on Thursday, comes at a time when its stock has plunged because of the North American weakness.

Delta Air Lines, on the other hand, will publish its earnings on Friday this week. These results come as air lines are facing soaring costs as jet fuel prices soar. To cope with this, these firms have had to boost prices, be more innovative, and cut costs.

These earnings come as market participants prepare for the upcoming earnings season that kicks off next week.
