Why Nvidia stock is rising on Wednesday?

written by October 21, 2026

Nvidia NVDA shares climbed 2.44% on Wednesday at around 1:20 PM EST after the chipmaker unveiled a new reference design intended to speed up the construction of AI data centers, as the company looks to address infrastructure constraints that have slowed the expansion of computing capacity.

The stock’s advance came amid a broader recovery in chipmakers following last week’s weakness.

All three major US indexes traded higher, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite gaining more than 1%.

Nvidia introduces modular AI factory design

At its GTC Berlin 2026 conference, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang presented the company’s DSX POD AI Factory reference design, which aims to reduce the time required to deploy AI infrastructure from months to weeks.

Building large data centers has become a major challenge for the AI industry, with companies racing to add capacity to support growing demand for computing power.

Nvidia’s latest design seeks to accelerate that process by bringing factory-built precision and speed to infrastructure deployment.

The DSX POD is approximately the size of a standard shipping container and weighs around 28,000 kilograms, or nearly 62,000 pounds, Nvidia said.

“An AI factory creates value when it starts producing tokens — not when construction is complete.”

“With NVIDIA DSX POD, we’re bringing factory-built precision and speed to AI infrastructure construction — reducing deployment time from months to weeks so customers can scale capacity and bring revenue-generating production online faster.”

The announcement highlights Nvidia’s growing focus on the infrastructure surrounding its chips, as faster deployment could help customers begin generating returns from AI investments sooner.

Germany event expands Nvidia’s AI ambitions

Nvidia also signed a joint declaration with Germany to advance industrial AI and strengthen cooperation through the Industry 4.0 Platform, alongside partners such as Siemens.

The company announced support for German startups Agile Robots, Avelios Medical, Mirelo and Reflex Aerospace.

The investments form part of a broader commitment to developing a European AI ecosystem valued at nearly $10 billion.

Nvidia also introduced its OpenShell Reference Architecture as it works to strengthen safeguards for AI agents.

Separately, it announced a humanoid robot reference design in collaboration with Agile Robots, extending its push into robotics and industrial applications.

China orders highlight demand for Nvidia hardware

Demand from China remained another focus, with ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent having reportedly ordered more than 3 million Nvidia RTX PRO 5500 graphics cards.

The orders carry a combined potential value exceeding $35 billion.

The reported purchases underscore continued demand for Nvidia hardware among major Chinese technology companies despite Washington’s restrictions on shipments of advanced AI chips.

Meanwhile, Goldman Sachs reiterated its Buy rating on Nvidia and maintained its $300 price target following the Berlin event.

The investment bank said Nvidia’s announcements reinforced its assessment that AI deployments remain on track for the foreseeable future, while cautioning that the developments might not translate into an immediate move in the stock.
