Palantir earnings preview: why 85% growth may not be enough

by November 2, 2026
written by November 2, 2026

Palantir Technologies (PLTR) faces a demanding test when it reports Q3 earnings after the close on November 2nd: showing that extraordinary growth still has room to run.

Wall Street expects earnings of $0.41 a share on roughly $2.18 billion in revenue. Yet even that sales figure would represent slower annual growth than the company delivered last quarter.

For investors, the central question is how much future demand does today’s release reveal – and whether management’s outlook gives them reason to raise expectations again.

Heading into the quarterly print, Palantir stock is up some 10% versus the start of this year.

Why a revenue beat may not be sufficient for Palantir stock

The difficulty lies in Palantir’s own success. Q2 revenue increased 93% year-over-year to $1.935 billion, establishing an unusually demanding comparison for the next report.

Consensus points to roughly 85% growth in the to-be-reported quarter; exceptional expansion, but a slower pace, nonetheless.

Investors should therefore distinguish between beating estimates and strengthening the underlying growth trajectory.

A “modest revenue surprise” could satisfy the first test while leaving the second unresolved.

That makes the outlook particularly consequential for PLTR shares.

A stronger quarter accompanied by a substantial increase in expectations for the remaining year would suggest demand is exceeding management’s assumptions.

A beat accompanied by limited additional optimism would leave more room to question whether recent momentum can persist.

The size and composition of any guidance increase deserve as much attention as the headline result.

PLTR shares require contract pipeline to keep replenishing

Palantir’s US commercial business offers a useful place to look for that distinction.

Revenue there surged 149% in Q2, while US commercial total contract value increased 153% to $2.132 billion.

Those figures established a strong starting point for assessing whether enterprise demand remains broad and durable.

Today’s earnings report needs to show both “execution” and “replenishment” – converting existing commitments into sales while securing enough additional business to support subsequent quarters.

Contract value should not be treated as immediate sales.

Large agreements can support sales across multiple periods, making their timing consequential.

Investing in Palantir shares requires examining commercial sales alongside new commitments and management’s explanation of deployment schedules.

Strong sales accompanied by a replenished pipeline would provide firmer evidence of durability than either measure alone.

Profit quality will help settle the growth debate

Profitability provides another check on the strength of the expansion.

Palantir reported a 47% operating margin in Q2, compared with a 62% adjusted operating margin.

The gap makes it useful to examine both measures when judging how much “additional revenue” ultimately benefits shareholders.

A favourable outcome would combine sustained demand, resilient profitability and a solid forward outlook.

The combination will suggest Palantir can grow rapidly while retaining massive economic value from its sales.

Conversely, a headline earnings beat would be less persuasive if underlying margins weakened or management offered limited visibility into subsequent growth.

All in all, Monday’s earnings report will, therefore, be most informative when read as a connected set of evidence.

Sales establishes the pace, contracts illuminate its durability, and profitability shows what PLTR stock investors retain.

Together, those measures offer a more useful verdict than the earnings surprise alone.
